In the past, vanilla has been used in skin creams, incense, perfumes, food and as an aphrodisiac. Melipona, a Mexican bee, pollinates a vanilla flower. Vanilla flowers began to be pollinated by hand in the 1930s so that their cultivation could penetrate other parts of the world. It is the beans treated with the solvent to release the base oil. Its aroma is sweet, rich, exotic, sensual and warm. Oils that blend well with vanilla are bergamot, grapefruit, jasmine, lemon, orange, rose, mandarin and vetiver.
